Losing weight can be a tough deal for some. You get this crazy idea that you have to permanently ditch all your favorite things including cocktail hour with your friends. While I don't advocate drinking all the time, here is a quick guide to help you enjoy your special gathering.

1 shot (1.5 fl oz) Gin, rum, vodka, whisky, tequila = 100 calories

8 oz of 7 UP = 100 calories

8 oz of Coke = 100 calories

8 oz of Club Soda = 0 calories

Mai Tai = 146 calories

Mojito = 229 calories

Kamikaze = 174 calories

Cosmopolitan = 157 calories

Mimosa = 85 calories

Beware of sweet, fruity drinks! They usually contain more calories than other drinks and are much easier to sip. One Mai Tai could easily turn into three if you aren't paying attention. If you decide to imbibe in a fruity drink (or any drink for that matter) be aware of how many you order. Allow yourself the one drink and follow it up with water. This will decrease your intake and help you rehydrate.

  1. Yep! My drinking habits changed drastically as I was trying to lose the weight. I stopped drinking alcohol all together for about a 1.5 years while I was losing and then slowly started drinking again. But instead of the daiquiris and White Russians etc I'd have rum and diet coke or vodka and club soda. Same experience just half the calories!
